Alyssa Baker’s self-titled, debut EP, introduces audiences to her quirky, Indie-pop, folk-rock style. The four tracks together tell the story of a relationship, from beginning to end, in a way that is uniquely Alyssa. Produced and mixed by singer, songwriter, producer, Winston Hauschild, (Hey Ocean, Hanna Georgas, Bodhi Jones, etc.), Alyssa’s EP is the result of a true collaboration. According to Alyssa, “Winston gave my songs the push they needed, and he was able to capture, in the studio, the ‘Alyssa’ in all of them.” Her first single, I Like You...or Something, released in January 2014, is an upbeat love song showcasing Alyssa’s unique brand of awkwardness. 2013 was a busy year for Alyssa. As well as spending time in the studio, Alyssa performed over 35 shows in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Highlights include: The Late, Late Show of Vancouver’s IGNITE! Youth-Driven Arts Festival, “Featuring Vancouver’s best young musical talent”; performing in the singer-songwriter evening of Vancouver's inaugural Safe Fest music festival, where she shared the bill with notable local musicians Luca Fogale, Rolla Olak, Skye Wallace, and others; performing a spotlight, featured artist set at the Momentum Youth Arts Festival at the Massey Theatre; opening for the Kate Kurdyak Band; and placing 4th in the PNE Star Showdown youth division (over 350 acts competed). 2014 is shaping-up to be another exciting year for this 16 year-old singer-songwriter. After releasing her EP on March 8, 2014, Alyssa will be heading to Nashville, Tennessee, for a two-week induction into the world of music, Nashville-style. The summer will see her first, Western-Canadian tour, with shows across BC and Alberta. You might also see her venture south, performing at venues in Washington and Oregon, USA. CMYK Q AND A
What Was your experience like shooting with cmyk?
I had a very positive experience working with cmyk! I had a super short window of opportunity to film my music video and they managed to accommodate my crazy schedule. We filmed and edited the video within a week and released it for my ideal date! Due to our tight schedule I thought we'd have to keep the filming quite simple, but the director I worked with, Josh, had great ideas and the video turned out to be so much more than I imagined. I had so much fun working on the video and from planning to filming cmyk was very professional. I am so happy with the result. They're awesome!
What was your favourite part of shooting with cmyk?
My favourite part was definitely filming in the forest. The environment was amazing and it suited the story for the video so well. It was super fun hiking around to all the interesting areas and finding locations we liked to shoot. Josh had already scoped out some great places and it was an awesome location to film in.
How important are music videos to your career?
Music videos are extremely important to my career because YouTube has become such an important part of social media. It's essential to have a presence on YouTube to stay relevant to your fans. After releasing an album, a video is great to keep the hype going and to stay in touch with fans through YouTube.
What is next for your career?
I'm planning a tour around BC for the fall. I'll be playing in Vancouver, Victoria, Langley, Richmond, Kamloops and more, which is super exciting. I will also be returning to Nashville in mid October to play more shows and take advantage of all the music city has to offer.
